What my fans are saying...

Hey Lloyd:

You might not remember me but we last spoke a few years ago when you had just finished a gig at Q’s Lounge and I was about to play with Birdlegg at Dotha’s Juke Joint.

I caught both your sets on Saturday night at Anna’s Jazz Island and had to let you know how much I enjoyed your playing and that of your stellar band. The variety of moods, grooves, and styles was refreshing and entertaining. It had been too long since I’d heard you play. You are a true master. With your Mom and friends in attendance the show itself was one big love fest. I felt fortunate to be there.

From the back of the room it seemed like you were gripping the guitar pick George Benson style: holding the pick on the tip of your thumb with the pad of your index finger. Am I correct? I attempted that grip for a while but couldn’t get anywhere with it.

Any way, as I go back to the woodshed thanks for the inspiration. Best wishes.

John

Hey Lloyd,
Saw your show (actually both sets) Sunday….absolutely fantastic! I have been to B&B a couple of times but hadn’t seen you. My friend’s father died about 4 weeks ago, his mother has terminal cancer and needless to say, he’s been picking some low cotton. He’s a very robust personality, but his depth had us all a little concerned. I set up the dinner Sunday to try to boost his spirits. He arrived somewhat morose, was grinning after the first 12 bars and left raving. He’s very into music of all kinds and couldn’t get over your show. My wife is a big Stevie W. fan…she too was blown away. We brought the 2 teenage boys…even they admitted to enjoying the show (though they had to sit with US).
Anyway, just wanted to let you know your music had a transformative effect on a great guy who was hurting pretty badly. His wife secretly called me yesterday and told me she thought the cure took and he had turned the corner.
Hope to see you again soon.
Regards,

Rob

Greetings, Mr. Gregory, It was great hearing and seeing you and your band yesterday. People were wondering who you are and I was happy to tell them. Your energy was a wonderful introduction to what turned out to be a beautiful experience. I am hoping for you that folks who want to know and hear more about you will contact KBLX. I have to say you have a given me a better appreciation of Jazz guitar in the same manner hearing Jimi Hendrix for the first time turned me on to electric guitar( I am an acousitc folkie). Have a beautiful rest of your life and thanks for your energy. I hope to see you at Biscuit and Blues soon.
Love and Gratitude,

Rasheedah Mwongozi
PS- Thank you for responding to my first email to you. I was not expecting a reply.

Tonight, I had the pleasure of Lloyd, and his band perform in Berkeley at Anna's Jazz Island.  He is a wonderful musician and very nice person.  He and his band's performances were the best I have seen in a long while.  I was able to buy one of his CD's

Lloyd Gregory's delicate brilliance is undeniable. His smooth, sultry, seductive manner with chords and strings, never intrusive, almost always leaves me excited and aroused, or dancing wildly on the dance floor, or in the privacy of my own living room.

Lloyd Gregory is a class act, soulful, rich, and smooth as they come. Whether lending his "voice" to jazz standards, funkin' it up with the many incarnations of his live band, or as an acoustic soloist, Lloyd's playing is sure to delight.

THE WIZARD OF LLOYD
If you’ve ever experienced his live performances you know that while you may still be pondering the punch line of his last joke, he’s already taking you to another level of the musical journey in the “Wizard of Lloyd”.

Watching and hearing Lloyd Gregory play is not a show it’s an “experience”.
Not one of much outward expression, this musical “Wiz” speaks to you intensely through
his music, which exudes from deep within. If you only catch the “show” you’ve missed something.

No matter what your musical taste, you can find it in “The Land of Lloyd”.
His versatility is awesome. Whether you like melodic classics, smooth jazz, down home blues, rock ‘n roll, or the rhythm and funk of the 70’s and 80’s, he’s got it!

In his company you can retouch the warmth within your heart, find courage, and click your heels as many times as you like. Be warned though, that as you ease on down the road you may have to go back for your brain!

Style, grace, and presentation, February 27, 2006

Reviewer: Emily Robertson Etienne (, CA)

review

Lloyd Gregory is one of the few local entertainers the I would travel 100 miles or more to see perform. He has the style, grace, and presentation of an artist that make the listener "feel" the music with EVERY note.
Words do not do him justice........YOU have to listen to him (in ALL his songs) to truly feel the music.
